What is Khairabadi Institute?

We’re here to revive the grand Khairabadi tradition from the Subcontinent.

The Indian Subcontinent has seen unparalleled levels of Islamic scholarship. Among the lasting scholarly legacies from this region of the world is the Khairabadi Tradition; a tradition rooted in critical thought and esteemed intellectual prowess.

Through our online platform, we strive to impart this eclectic tradition to students and seekers of knowledge in the modern day.

Who are the Khairabadis?

The great Mughal Sultan, Aurangzeb ‘Alamgir (d. 1707 CE) offered a building in Lucknow, India, to the esteemed scholar Mulla Nizam (d. 1748 CE) to live in with his family. This building was known as the ‘Farangi Mahall’. Mulla Nizām & his brothers soon turned this building into the leading centre for knowledge & practice in the Subcontinent and the scholars who benefitted from this tradition became known as the ‘Farangī Mahallis’.

The Khairabadi scholars hailed from the legendary Farangi Mahalli tradition of the Indian Subcontinent. They were masters of the textual and rational sciences. Stemming from the notable Imam, Allama Fazl-i-Haq Khairabadi (d. 1861 CE), the tradition produced leading experts in fields such as Logic and spurred new research in the rational sciences.

Today, the inheritors of the Khairabadi tradition continue to play a vital role in preserving and furthering the rich legacy of the Farangi Mahall.
